Gerald Edwin Dittmer, 85, of Ohio County, IN, passed away at 7:05 PM, Wednesday, March 6th, 2019 at The Waters of Rising Sun. Gerald was born on Short Ridge near Mount Sinai in Dearborn County, IN on July 1, 1933, a son of the late Edith L. (Warner) and Frederick Edwin "Ed" Dittmer. Gerald grew up in Dearborn County and attended school in Moores Hill. He married June (Robinson) Dittmer on April 26, 1952. Gerald and June were married over 66 years until her passing less than a year ago, on June 24, 2018. Gerald retired in 1988 from the Alton Box Factory in Aurora, IN after over 33 years of service. He attended the Rising Sun Church of Christ. As a young man, Gerald enjoyed fishing in Laughery creek and hunting the hills on Arlington road. In 1961 Gerald and June purchased the Potter farm in Ohio county. He worked tirelessly between the Box factory and the farm loving every hour of it. He was a devoted husband, loving father and friend to many.
Gerald is survived by two daughters, Sherry Bailey, of Rising Sun, IN and Lisa Morton and husband Mark, of Rising Sun, IN; by two sons, Eddie Dittmer and wife Cindy, of Rising Sun, IN and Kelly Dittmer, of Aurora, IN; by 8 grandsons: Michael Bailey, Gerald Andrew Bailey, David Bailey, Nathan Bailey, Eean Bailey, Michael Dittmer, Daniel Edwin Dittmer & Derek Dittmer and by 19 great grandchildren. Gerald is also survived by a sister, Patsy Dittmer, of Versailles, IN; by a brother, Russell Dittmer, of Moores Hill, IN; by brother-in-law, Russell Robinson and wife Jean, of Rising Sun, IN; by sister-in-law Myrt Bennett and husband Loren, of Rising Sun, IN and by brother-in-law, Benny Walker, of Rising Sun, IN.
Funeral services will be 11 AM, Monday, March 11th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Brother Don Thomason officiating. Friends are invited to call Sunday 5-8 PM at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. marklandfuneralhome.com
