Hager Gillispie

Hager Combs (Granny) Gillispie was born October 28, 1917 to loving parents Lula & Lenard Combs in Owsley County, Kentucky. She was the second eldest of seven children; sisters-Gertie & Loretta and brothers- Ralph, John, Rollie and Sam. She loved growing up in the mountains of Kentucky. As a teenager the family moved to Harrison, Indiana. She married Omer Gillispie in November of 1938. She raised five sons; Lenard, of Greendale, Carl, of Aurora, James, of Aurora and Ray & George who preceded her in death. She had 12 grandchildren and several great & great great grandchildren. She worked hard on the farm. Not only cooking, cleaning and doing laundry but also tending livestock, planting crops and putting up tobacco. She was an excellent cook. Anyone who entered her home was well fed. She was an artist who made quilts that were totally handmade. When you were wrapped in one of her quilts you could feel the love. Her sons & grandchildren were the light of her life, and she ours.

Funeral services will be 12 PM, Saturday, May 5th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Rev. Bill Helms officiating. Visitation will be Saturday 10AM-12PM at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Gibson Cemetery in Bright, IN. marklandfuneralhome.com
