Kenneth Swanson Obituary

Kenneth S. Swanson, Sr., 92, of Rising Sun, IN passed away Saturday, April 14th, 2018, peacefully at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Yolanda and Bobby White. Kenneth was born in York Township in Switzerland County, IN on November 6, 1925, a son of the late Helen E. (White) and Henry J. Swanson, Sr. He was a graduate of Patriot High School, class of 1944. Kenny proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp as a Sgt. during WW II. Kenny participated in the China Offensive, Western Pacific, Liberation South Philippines, Borneo and Luzon Campaigns. While in service he received an American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon w/5 Br. Stars and Good Conduct Medal. On June 18, 1949 he married the love of his life, Irene V. (Buck) Swanson. Kenny and Irene were married over 56 years until her passing on December 18, 2005. Kenny worked at the Aurora Casket Factory in Aurora, IN from 1949-1987. After his retirement from the casket factory, he worked at Grand Victoria Casino, Walmart and Valley Supply in Rising Sun. Kenny attended Grants Creek Baptist Church until he entered The Waters of Rising Sun Nursing Home due to his health. He was a 48 year member of the Rising Sun Lions Club and helped with their fireworks display for many years. He also served on the Patriot Alumni Board for several years. Kenny also formerly coached little league baseball and enjoyed bowling. Kenny was a loving dad, grandpa, great grandpa, brother, uncle and friend to many.

Kenneth is survived by three daughters, Yvonne Walton(Gary), of Rising Sun, IN; Yolanda White(Bobby), of Rising Sun,IN and Yetta Keith(Rusty), of Rising Sun, IN; by three sons, Kenneth Swanson, Jr. (Annette), of Batesville, IN; Reynold Swanson(Cheryl), of Mansfield, OH and Mark Swanson(Kim), of Rising Sun, IN; by grandchildren, Michelle Swanson, Marina Swanson, Shanda Boes, Bryan Swanson, Karrah Miller, Tangy Yeager, Kassie Adams, Brandi Swanson, Ticia Yeager, Krystle Kaiser, Brad Yeager, Melissa Swanson, Adam Keith, Matthew Keith, Anthony Swanson and Pat Yeager; by 30 great grandchildren; by three sisters, Shirley Cook, of Lawrenceburg, IN; Ramona Titkemeyer Bartlett, of Plant City, FL and Sharon Harlow, of Rising Sun, IN; by a brother, Miles "Buster" Swanson, of Dillsboro, IN; by sister-in-laws, Alice Swanson, of Florida and Daisy Swanson, of Bennington, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife Irene, by grandson Reynold Swanson, Jr., by brothers Henry Jr., Sanford and Carroll "Buddy" Swanson and by sister Gloria Swanson.

Funeral services will be 11 AM, Friday, April 20th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN. Visitation will be Thursday 5-8 PM at Markland Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be at New Liberty Cemetery in East Enterprise, IN. Memorial donations may be made to Rising Sun Lions Club.
