Ruby (Hogsten) Hayes

Ruby (Hogsten) Hayes went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 3, 2018 peacefully at her home surrounded by loved ones.  Ruby was born in Breathitt County, Kentucky on March 2, 1944 to the late Edward and Beaulah Hogsten.  Ruby grew up in Kentucky with a large family of 3 sisters and 8 brothers.  Ruby married the love of her life, Edwin Hayes Sr. on April 8, 1960.  She lived the majority of her life in Rising Sun, Indiana.  Together, Eddie and Ruby built a wonderful life together celebrating 58 years of marriage this year.  Ruby worked at Plastic Molding Corporation for 27 years before retiring. She spent her days on the farm with Ed setting tobacco, milking cows, tending to their garden, and spending time with her family.  You could always count on a smile on her face when she was around her family.  She loved her family dearly and spent many years caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  She was always known for her sense of humor, hard work, and spit-fire attitude.  She loved her family more than anything.    

Ruby is survived by her husband, Edward Hayes Sr., of Rising Sun, IN; 3 daughters, Kim Prakel (Tom), of Lawrenceburg, IN; Susan Hill (Max), of Butlerville, IN; Wanda House (Eric), of Aurora, IN; and Edwin Hayes Jr., of Rising Sun, IN.  Those children blessed her with 9 grandkids Destiny Rutzel (Dave), Majestica Placke (Zach), Montana Prakel, McKenna Prakel, Jaclyn Vanosdol (Jimmy), Malcom Hill, Amber Drake (Cody), Joseph House (Abby), and Tyler Hayes and 12 Great-grandchildren with one on the way (Chloe, Easton, Adalyn, Chesney, Dane, Kallyon, Kayzen, Eleanor, Karsyn, Lilly, Iva, Hayeslee, and baby Luca on the way); by brothers, Raymond Hogsten of Aurora, IN and Harlan Hogsten of Milan, IN; by sisters, Lois Sue Farris of Henderson, KY, Ima Jean Herrod of Lost Creek, WV and Marcella Todd of Lost Creek, WV; also by brother-in-law Harold Hayes and his wife Laverne of Rising Sun, IN. Ruby is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other family members and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents and 6 brothers (Ralph Hogsten, Allan Hogsten, Robert Hogsten, Bobby Hogsten, Ernest Hogsten, and Lonzo Hogsten).

Services will be 11 AM, Thursday, August 9th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, Indiana with Pastor Mike Jones officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday 5-7 PM at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the funeral home in care of the family.
