Susan Elaine (Abplanalp) Hankins

Susan Elaine Hankins, 78, of  Vevay, IN, passed away at 9:06 AM, Sunday, March 3rd, 2019 at King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, IN. Susan was born in Ripley County, IN on October 14, 1940, a daughter of the late Sophia (Fruchtnicht) and Clarence Abplanalp. She grew up in Ripley County and attended school in Napoleon. Susan retired in 2006 from Grand Victoria Casino where she worked in catering. She also formerly worked at the  Vevay Shoe Factory and Grandma's Kitchen Restaurant. While Susan was living in Rising Sun, she enjoyed attending the First United Church of Christ. Susan was the widow of David C. Hankins. Susan and David loved to go camping and fishing. Susan liked spending time outdoors and was an animal lover. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Susan is  survived by a daughter, Hope Richardson and husband William, of North Vernon, IN; by a son, Chris Hankins, of Vevay, IN; by grandchildren: Robert Richardson, Jamie Richardson, Michael Richardson, Chris Hankins, Melissa Pyane, Meagan Hankins and Deanna Hankins; by 21 great grandchildren and by 6 great great grandchildren; by a sister, Betty Griswold, of Champaign, IL; by a brother, Alfred Abplanalp, of St. Leon, IN; and by several nieces and nephews. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband, David, by a brother, George and by sisters, Ruth, Mary and May.
 
Funeral services will be 1 PM. Friday, March 8th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Rev. Jim Jenkins officiating. Friends are invited to call Friday 11AM-1PM at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Slawson Cemetery in Bennington, IN.  Memorial donations may be made to Slawson Cemetery. Cards are available at the funeral home. marklandfuneralhome.com
