Wayne Smock, 76, Rising Sun, IN, passed away on Saturday, October 5th, 2019 at Highpoint Health in Lawrenceburg, IN. Wayne was born in Osgood, IN on November 16, 1942, a son of the late Gertrude (Thola) and Byron L. Smock. He was a member of the last graduating class of Osgood High School in 1960. Wayne was an independent insurance agent for many years. Wayne proudly served his country in the US Army Reserve and was a member of the Rising Sun American Legion Post 59. He was also honored as a Kentucky Colonel. Wayne had many interests and hobbies. He had a true passion for riding his motorcycle anywhere across the country and was also a American Legion Rider. Wayne was a die hard Indianapolis 500 fan and attended many of them over the years. He was also a Cincinnati Reds and IU basketball fan. Wayne loved boating and being on the river. He enjoyed traveling, doing anything outdoors and had a love for animals. Wayne was also known for enjoying a good meal and he took his time doing it too.
Wayne is survived by a daughter, Dana Jones and husband Charlie, of Lafayette, TN; by a son, Shane Smock and wife Jana, of Scipio, IN; by grandchildren: Cara Maschino (Paul) of Lexington, IN, Ashley Readling (Andy Hales) of New Albany, IN and by Dylan Smock (Kenzi Copley) of Scipio, IN, by great grandchildren; Connor & Gavin, by step-grandchildren, Heather Stubblefield (Dusty) of Lafayette, TN and Kyle Jones (Ariel) of Murfreesboro, TN and by step great grandchildren: Henry & Adam; by three sisters, Ruth Ann Burdine, of Huntsville, AL, Karen Decker, of Greensburg, IN and Bonnie Grigsby, of Cincinnati, OH; by a brother, Bud Smock, of Hephzibah, GA; by special nephew, Brian Grigsby, of Carmel, IN and by many other nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and by a grandson, Chris Readling on January 12, 2015.
Funeral services will be 7 PM, Wednesday, October 9th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Pastor Tom Heim officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday 4-7 PM at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greendale Cemetery in Osgood, IN. Memorial donations may be made to the Ohio County Animal Shelter or the Rising Sun American Legion.
