Betty Jean (Courtney) Works

Betty Jean Works, 86, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away at 12:55 AM, Monday, August 9th, 2021 at Ripley Crossing in Milan, IN. Betty was born in Aberdeen, IN on June 16, 1935, a daughter of the late Iva (Romans) Courtney and Earl  Courtney. Betty grew up in Ohio County and was a 1953 graduate of Rising Sun High School.  Betty married Dale H. Works on October 23, 1954 in Paris France, where Dale was stationed during his service in the US Army.  Betty and Dale were married over 66 years until her passing. Betty's first job was at Seagrams Distillery in Lawrenceburg, IN. Betty later went on to do office and secretarial work for Rising Sun State Bank, Rising Sun Ohio County Schools, Siekman Sterns Insurance and the Ohio County Courthouse. Her last position was at the Rising Sun Church of Christ Daycare. Betty was a member of the Rising Sun Church of Christ and a former member of the Phi Beta Sorority. Betty and Dale loved taking trips and traveling together. They also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family and friends.

Betty is survived by her loving husband, Dale Works, of Rising Sun, IN; by her son, Rick Works and wife Amy, of Rising Sun, IN;  by 2 granddaughters; Sarah Hautman and husband Nick, of Overland Park, KS and Rachel Woks and fiance Daniel Shelby, of Nashville, TN and by 2 great grandchildren, Grant and Quinn. Betty is also survived by
a sister, Sandy Swinford and husband Frank, of Fort Wayne, IN and a brother, Paul Courtney, of Fairfield, OH.  Betty was preceded in death by her parents and by 2 brothers, Earl Courtney, Jr. and Don Courtney.
 
Visitation will be held 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 14th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN. Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Saturday, August 14th at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Loving Hearts Hospice. marklandfuneralhome.com
