Carl Thomas Hutchinson

Carl Thomas Hutchinson, 74, of Patriot, IN, passed away March 11, 2024 at his residence. Carl was born on November 19, 1949, a son of the late Rosa Lee (Boggs) and Richard Raymond Hutchinson Sr. Carl attended school at Cass Union, Rising Sun, and Patriot High School. He obtained his license for Refrigerant and Recovery Type I and II from Ferris State University. He was employed with the Switzerland County School Corporation for 22 years until his retirement, working in the maintenance and custodial department and also assisting with transportation. On August 23, 1968, Carl was married to Betty Gurley in Patriot, IN at her parents’ home. The couple enjoyed over 55 bliss filled years together. Carl was baptized at Aberdeen United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, playing golf, music, bowling, fishing, and watching the Cincinnati Reds and IU Hoosiers.

Carl is survived by his loving wife Betty Hutchinson of Patriot, IN; son Carl D. Hutchinson (Angela) of Hanover, IN; daughters Kimberly Hutchinson of Alexandria, KY, Sheila Boles of Florence, KY, and Kathy Hutchinson (Tim Smith) of Richwood, KY; mother-in-law Kathryn Turner; sisters-in-law Pamela Hutchinson, Rhonda Turner, Kay Sawyers, Barbara Gurley, and Deanna Gurley; brother-in-law James Gurley; 13 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by brothers Terry Hutchinson and Rocky Hutchinson; sister Rose Herrick; and grandson Shawn Tyler Hutchinson.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 14th from 11 AM – 1 PM at the Markland Funeral Home. Funeral will be Thursday, March 14th at 1 PM at the Markland Funeral Home with burial to follow at Eastview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church or Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
