Carl R. Lay

Carl R. Lay, 72, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away on Thursday, April 1st, 2021 at his residence. Carl was born in Casey County, KY on May 10, 1948, a son of the late Bessie (Buck) Lay and Thorton  Lay. Carl was employed at Thatcher Glass for awhile and then went to work at Pierson-Hollowell for several years until his retirement. In his younger years Carl liked to fish, hunt and enjoyed the outdoors. Later on, Carl went from hunting squirrels to keeping them well fed. The neighborhood squirrels knew where to go for a handout. Carl was a people person and never met a stranger. He loved sitting with his friends, talking and joking. Carl loved his family and they will deeply miss his humor and friendly, loving nature.

Carl is  survived by a son, Carl William Lay; by three sisters, Carolyn Wright (Terry), of Milan, IN;  Linda Cann, of East Enterprise, IN and Connie Sigmon, of East Enterprise, IN; by a brother, Chester  Lay (Mary), of East Enterprise, IN and by several nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and by brothers, Alton, Jesse, Stanley and Raymond Lay and by sisters, Datha Carman and Lillie May Lay.
 
Funeral services will be at 1PM, Monday, April 5th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Pastor Hobart Byrd officiating. Visitation will be held 11 AM to 1:00 PM on Monday, April 5th at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at New Liberty Cemetery in East Enterprise. Memorial donations may be made to the Ohio County EMS or the Switzerland County EMS. Cards are available at the funeral home.
