Carl Wayne Phelps, 76, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away at 09:20 AM, Monday, March 16th, 2020 at his residence. Wayne was born in Somerset, KY on January 26, 1944, a son of the late Helen Gertrude Randall and Lewis Freeman Phelps. Wayne grew up in the Pulaski County, KY community and attended Shopville High School. He was the husband of Joyce Whitaker Phelps. They were married on September 16, 1962 in Jellico, TN. Wayne and Joyce were married over 57 years until his passing. Wayne worked as a mechanic and supervisor at Avon Products in Springdale, OH, retiring after over 30 years of service. Wayne was a faithful Christian and member of Grants Creek Independent Baptist Church. He was church treasurer for 20 years and also served as a Sunday School teacher. Wayne was instrumental in the founding of the Rising Sun Small Business Organization and former proprietor of Angilo's Pizza. Wayne loved to farm and be outside. He enjoyed fishing (even though his success rate wasn't very high). Wayne was also an avid UK basketball fan. Wayne loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Wayne was a loving husband, dad and papaw and will be deeply missed by his family, friends and church family.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Joyce Phelps, of Rising Sun, IN; by a daughter, Tonia Minks and husband Britt, of Rising Sun, IN; by a son, Tim Phelps and wife Larissa, of Rising Sun, IN; by grandchildren: Nate Minks (Audrey) of Columbus, IN, Alyson Minks Barnes (Walter) of Rising Sun, IN, Lucy Phelps & Grant Phelps, of Rising Sun, IN; by great grandchildren; Britt Minks & Gwendolyn Minks; by his sister, Betty DePrato and husband Richard, of Cincinnati, OH and by sister-in-law, Helen Phelps, of Rising Sun, IN. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, by brothers, Orville & Harold Phelps and by sister Clara Mae Super.
A private family visitation will be held 11 AM - 1 PM with private services to follow at 1 PM on Friday, March 20th at Grants Creek Independent Baptist Church.
