Cecil Rodney Irwin

Cecil Rodney Irwin, 76, of Patriot, IN, passed away peacefully at 9:30 AM, Sunday, July 10th, 2022 at his residence overlooking the Ohio River. Cecil was born in Dearborn County, IN on March 15, 1946, a son of the late Gladys (Fugitt) Irwin and Ralph  Irwin and younger brother to Glenda and Linda Irwin. He was a graduate of Taylor High School in Cleves, OH. Cecil worked as a Control Operator for 30 years at Cincinnati Gas & Electric in Cincinnati, OH. Cecil married Joann (Gilbert) Irwin on November 8, 1968 at the Assembly Church of God in Harrison, OH. Cecil and Joann were married over 53 years until his passing. He was a member of the Rising Sun Church of Christ. Cecil enjoyed collecting antiques and watching the barges go down the river. He established such a good relationship with the Marathon Corporation that they actually gave him a radio to communicate with the boat captains as they went by. Cecil was a lover of animals, especially his dogs Chloe and Clyde.

Cecil is  survived by his loving wife, Joann Irwin, of Patriot, IN; by his two daughters, Christina  Irwin (Andrew Hernandez), of Patriot, IN and Melissa Irwin (Garen Rees), of Patriot, IN. Cecil is also survived by Shaun Roll, of Patriot, IN who was like a son to him.

Graveside services will be 1:00 PM, Thursday, July 14th at Eastview Cemetery in Patriot, IN. Memorial donations may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or to the Red Wolf Sanctuary. Markland Funeral Home of Rising Sun, IN serving the family.
