Clyde Robert Poling, 89, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away on Sunday, January 3rd, 2021 at The Waters of Rising Sun. Clyde was born in Switzerland County, Indiana on November 24, 1931, a son of the late Minnie Charlotte (Brandon) and Clyde Poling. He graduated from Patriot High School, Class of 1950. Clyde proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. While in service he received the Korean Service Ribbon w/ 1 Bronze Service Star, United Nations Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation and National Defense Service Medal. Clyde worked for over 40 years at Seagrams Distillery in Lawrenceburg, IN from July 10, 1951 to January 1, 1992. Clyde married Mary Ruth (Brett) Poling in 1957. Clyde and Mary Ruth were married over 62 years until her passing on January 29, 2020. He was a member of the Rising Sun United Methodist Church. Clyde was also a member of the Rising Sun American Legion and the Vevay VFW. Clyde enjoyed the outdoors and liked hunting, fishing, trapping, and playing golf. He was also an IU and Reds fan. Clyde loved going to his grandchildren's games and watching them play.
Clyde is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Poling, of Rising Sun, IN; by two sons, Jeff Poling and wife DeAnna, of Burlington, KY and Alan Poling and wife Tonya, of Rising Sun, IN; by granddaughters, Cora, Claire, Emily and Alicia; by a great granddaughter, Marygrace; by three sisters, Freda Walker, of Switzerland County, IN; Eva Fette, of Switzerland County, IN and Jane Poling, of Madison, IN and by many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife, Mary Ruth Poling, by brothers Wilbur and William "Pete" Poling and by sisters Connie Jo Peters, Jeanette McCarty and Frances "Fanny" White.
Funeral services will be 1 PM, Wednesday, January 6th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Pastor Laura McDonald officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday 11 AM - 1 PM at Markland Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery.
