Creola Diane Schraeder was born in Neodesha, KS on September 9, 1934, a daughter of the late Maurine (Fairchild) and Clarence Imel Pfeifer. She was a graduate of Chanute High School, Class of 1952, and attended college. Diane married Richard John Schraeder on April 25, 1954. Six children were born to this union; a son Tom and five daughters; Belinda, Kathy, Judy, Melody, and Betsy. Diane and Richard were married over 52 years until his passing on October 21, 2006. Diane retired from Seagrams Distillery after 31 years of service. Diane was a faithful Christian and member of the Rising Sun 1st United Church of Christ. She was a member of the Rising Sun Eastern Star and Salem Hilltoppers Home Extension Club where she served 4 years as Ohio County Extension Club President. She was a 4-H leader for well over 10 years. Diane and Richard enjoyed dancing, playing cards and loved traveling all over the country. She was a shrewd shopper and kept an eye out for bargains enjoying yard sales and auctions. She worked several years with Auctioneer Ray Walton. Diane was a very talented crocheter and made beautiful afghans her family cherishes. She also enjoyed cake decorating and made more wedding cakes than we can count. Diane was an avid reader, a walking dictionary, and was able to spell anything. Diane passed away on Monday, September 28th, 2020 at the home of her daughter at the age of 86.
Diane is survived by four daughters, Belinda Murray (Mike), of Rising Sun, IN; Kathy Ashley, of Richmond, TX; Judy Riddell (David), of Rising Sun, IN; Betsy McNab (Bill), of Crossville, TN, and by a son, Tom Schraeder (Marla), of Rising Sun, IN. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren (with one on the way) and one great-great-grandson. She is also survivor by two sister-in-laws and brother-in-law from South Dakota, and several nieces and nephews. Diane was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Richard, her sister Joan Kirk, by her daughter Melody Hardwick in 2018, by her son-in-law Tony Hardwick in 2016, and by her son-in-law, Glenn Ashley in 2019.
Funeral services will be 11 AM, Saturday, October 3rd at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Lane Siekman officiating. Visitation will be held 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, October 2nd at Markland Funeral Home with Eastern Star services at 7 PM.Burial will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Rising Sun 1st United Church of Christ, Phi Beta Psi Sorority or charity of donor's choice.
