David Gary Reed

David Gary Reed, 73, of Center Square, IN, passed away on Thursday, August 21st, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. David was born in Madison, IN on March 30, 1952, the son of the late Rebecca Jane (Wolf) Reed and David Reed. He was a graduate of Switzerland County High School, Class of 1970. David proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard.  During life Davy operated a lot of heavy equipment but getting to do this alongside his father farming was always what he enjoyed most and was where his heart was. He was a farmer and raised his family in this lifestyle giving his children and grandchildren a way of life they will forever cherish in their own hearts.  He raised row crop, tobacco, and livestock for many years. He loved the country life and enjoyed the outdoors including fishing, hunting, and riding his motorcycle. David was a big man with a big heart for abused dogs.  He had a passion to save them.  Through kindness and patience, he was able to help these mistreated animals trust and feel loved again providing them with the best life a dog could have.  He was a simple man who found comfort in our Lord Jesus Christ and after a long bout with Parkinson's disease looked forward to the day when there would be no more sickness or suffering.

    David is  survived by his daughter, Sarah Day and her husband Brian Day, of Canaan, IN; by his son, Kenny Reed, of Los Angeles, CA; by his two grandsons, Reed Day, of Cross Plains, IN and Gabe Day, of Canaan, IN; by two sisters, Carolyn Miller, of Vevay, IN and Pamela Reed, of Vevay, IN. David was preceded in death by his parents, David and Rebecca Reed and by his sister, Sandra Sue "Tootie" Leap.

    A Celebration of David's Life will be held from 5:00 PM till 6:00 PM with a brief service at 5:00 PM on Thursday, August 28th, 2025 at Center Square Baptist Church  1728 Highway 56 Vevay, IN 47043.  A meal will be served following the Life Celebration at 6:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Switzerland County Animal Shelter.
