David Earl Sommer, 70, of Bear Branch, IN passed away Friday, September 11th, at his residence. David was born in Milan, IN on December 11, 1949, a son of the late Eleanor (Kaizer) and Alfred Sommer. He grew up in Ohio County and was a graduate of Rising Sun High School, Class of 1967. After graduation, David proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was the husband of Holly (Hussung) Sommer. David and Holly were married on January 27, 1973 at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Bear Branch, IN. David worked several years as a diesel mechanic at Peterbuilt in Sharonville, OH. David enjoyed his guns and target shooting. He also liked gardening, fishing, golfing and watching hummingbirds at their feeders. David also enjoyed the company of his cat, Mel.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Holly Sommer, of Bear Branch, IN; by two daughters, Stacie Ely and husband Eric, of Aberdeen, IN and Stephanie King and husband Ronnie, of Patriot, IN; by 3 grandchildren: Taylor, Dakota and Cheyenne; by two sisters, Donna Branch (Charles Hill), of Dillsboro, IN and Phyllis Thurber, of Ft. Wayne, IN. David was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Paul Sommer and by a brother-in-law, Bud Thurber.
Funeral services will be 11 AM, Friday, September 18th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Pastor Charles Hill officiating. Visitation will be held 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 17th at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Marker-Althoff Cemetery in Bear Branch, IN.
