David Wright Obituary

David L. Wright, 72, of Dillsboro, IN, passed away on Thursday, May 20th, 2021 at Select Specialty Hospital in Fort Thomas, KY. David was born in Lamar, MO on August 25, 1948, a son of the late Belva I. (Ogan) and Lenvil M. Wright. He was a 1966  graduate of Center Senior High School in Kansas City, MO. David proudly served his country in the US Navy, retiring after 22 years of faithful service. David obtained the rank of RMCS (SS) and served as strategic submarine radioman and communications equipment technician.  He served on the USS Gato, USS Pintado, USS Snook and USS Pargo. While in service, he was awarded 4 Good Conduct Medals, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation (2), Navy Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Enlisted Submarine Qualified and SSBN Deterrent Patrol Insignia. After his Naval career, David worked for North American Stainless for over 20 years. David married Deboreah K. (Vinson) Wright on April 27, 1979 in San Diego, CA. David and Deborah were married over 42 years until his passing. David was a member of the Dillsboro American Legion, a lifetime member of the VFW, a life member of the United States Submarine Veterans Inc. and Holland Club. David loved to fish, he especially enjoyed taking his grandchildren and other kids in the family. He was also a talented woodworker and liked making special items for his family and friends. David also enjoyed traveling with his wife and was very active in the various veterans organizations he belonged to. David was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, brother, proud veteran and friend to many.

David is  survived by loving wife, Deboreah Wright, of Dillsboro, IN; by two daughters, Kelly Marsik and husband Mark, of Port Orchard, WA and Garri Meeks and husband David, of Dillsboro, IN; by two sons, Mike Wright and fiancee Kristi Lewis, of Staunton, VA and  Robert Melton, of Boerne, TX; by grandchildren, Andrew Wright, Kaylee Wright, Dominick Meeks and Jesse Meeks; by a sister, Wendy Preston and husband Steve, of Harrisonville, MO and by a brother, John Wright and wife Darla, of Grandview, MO. David was preceded in death by his parents Lenvil & Belva Wright, by his brother Lenvil "Gene" Wright and by his granddaughter Jenna Meeks. 
 

Services with military honors will be held at 1:30 PM, Friday, May 28th at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, IN. Visitation will be held 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, May 28th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN.
