Deborah Bovard, age 70, of Rising Sun, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, September 24th at St. Elizabeth-Dearborn County Hospital surrounded by her family. Debbie was the only daughter of Donald and Helen Works (Brown). She grew up in Rising Sun, Indiana where she met and married Stephen Bovard on June 5th, 1976. They were happily married for 45 years up until her death. Debbie loved quilting and spending time with friends and family, especially her five grandchildren.
Early on, Debbie worked as a hairdresser and helped at her father’s company, Brown Tool. She completed her teaching degree and worked at St. Mary’s School for a short time before being hired at Milan Elementary School, where she taught for nearly 20 years. She had a genuine love of her students and teaching. She was wonderful at her job and even had several past students tell her they went into the profession because of her. She was well liked and respected by her colleagues and spent years working as the union representative. After her retirement, she devoted her time to caring for her aging parents and spending time with family.
Debbie is survived by her husband, Stephen Bovard, son, Donald Bovard (Jenny); daughter Terri Sarver (Derik) (Rising Sun, IN), five grandchildren, Olivia Bovard (Aurora, IN), Nya Bovard, Megan Bovard, Jacob Bovard, Andrew Sarver (Rising Sun, IN), and numerous cousins and in-laws. She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Helen Works. She will be missed and forever loved.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, September 29th from 5pm to 8pm for visitation at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, September 30th at 1pm, and interment will follow at the Rising Sun Cemetery in Rising Sun, Indiana.
