Dick Edward Hastings

Dick Edward Hastings, 86, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away at 7:15 AM, Sunday, November 22nd, at Hospice of Cincinnati. Dick was born in Ohio County, IN on April 21, 1934, a son of the late Anna (Liggett) and Ernest "Journey"  Hastings. He was raised in Ohio County and was a graduate of Rising Sun High School, Class of 1953. Dick proudly  served his country in the U.S. Army as a SP3 (T). While in service, he received National Defense Service and Good Conduct Medals. Dick was the husband of Verna Ruth (Lattire) Hastings. They were married on August 3, 1957 at the Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ. Dick and Verna were married over 63 years until his passing.  Dick worked in machine maintenance at Seagrams Distillery in Lawrenceburg, IN for over 30 years. Dick grew up attending the Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ and was a former member of the Rising Sun Rotary Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. Dick also farmed and raised tobacco. Dick would bring apples from Michigan and sell in front of his house, which was a good opportunity for him to visit with people.

Dick is  survived by his wife, Verna Hastings, of Rising Sun, IN; by a brother, Neal Hastings and wife Bobbie, of Rising Sun, IN; by nieces Julea Schuh Remke (Bill) and Susan Hastings Giebler (Jim Grobmyer) and by many cousins, other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother Thomas Leon Hastings.
 
Public graveside services with military honors will be 11 AM, Wednesday, November 25th at the Rising Sun New Cemetery in Rising Sun, IN. Memorial donations may be made to Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ or Ohio County Historical Society Endowment Fund.
