Donna M. (Cook) Johnson

Donna M. (Cook) Johnson, 79, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away on Wednesday, March 30th, 2022 at The Waters of Rising Sun. Donna was born in Quercus Grove, IN on January 22, 1943, a daughter of the late Mildred (Pease) Cook and Harold  Cook. Donna grew up in Switzerland County and attended Quercus Grove Elementary School and was a 1961 graduate of Patriot High School. Donna also completed business school courses.  She was the wife of Ernie Johnson. They were married on January 22, 1971 at the Quercus Grove United Methodist Church by Rev. Arnold Cutter. Donna and Ernie were married over 51 years until her passing. Donna was a member of the Quecus Grove United Methodist Church. She was also an active member of the Rising Sun American Legion Auxiliary for over 50 years and former Bar Manager for the Legion. Donna last worked at the Grand Victoria Casino in Rising Sun. She also held several other jobs over the years including Tandy's IGA, Shell Service Station and Ohio County Tourism. Donna and Ernie also formerly operated The Cottage in Aurora. Donna loved the outdoors tending to her flowers, gardening and mowing the grass. She also had a fondness for animals, especially horses and hummingbirds.

Donna is survived by her loving husband, Ernie Johnson, of Rising Sun, IN; by her sister, Janet Boggs, of Vevay, IN; by sisters-in-law, Lois Cook, of Sellersburg, IN, Shirley Cook, of Lawrenceburg, IN and Betty Rippberger(Tommy), of Alexandria, KY; by close family friend, JoDell Johnson, of Rising Sun, IN and by many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Donna was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ann Scudder; by her brothers, William "Willie" Cook, Harold Cook and infant brother Lewis Cook; by brothers-in-law, Delbert Scudder,Larry Boggs and Robert Johnson and by sisters-in-law, Elma Marie Cook and Helen Jean Johnson.

Private family graveside services will be held on Tuesday, April 5th at the Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Rising Sun American Legion Auxiliary. Markland Funeral Home of Rising Sun, IN serving the family.
