Doris Joy "Jo" (Murray) Ames, 91, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 16th, 2023 at her residence. Jo was born in Ohio County, Indiana on June 17, 1932, a daughter of the late Nellie Mae (Fry) Murray and Edward Clyde Murray. She attended Rising Sun and Aurora High Schools. Jo was a long time resident of Florida and lived in Jensen Beach for nearly 45 years. She was a member of the Morningside Church in Port St. Lucie, FL and currently attended the Rising Sun First Baptist Church. Jo formerly worked in Administrative Services and was employed by the AT&T and Bell Corporations for 42 years. Jo Married Homer "Sunny" Ames on July 12th, 1958. Jo and Sunny were married over 43 years until his passing on April 28, 2002. Jo loved to travel and enjoyed reading and coloring. She also liked decorating and was very good at it. Jo was always up for a good shopping trip too. Jo loved her family and treated her nieces and nephews like her own children.
Jo is survived by her loving sister, Kay Burress, of Rising Sun, IN; by nieces and nephews: Mikel Murray (Belinda), Maria Murray, Steve Kapetanakis, Greg Kapetanakis (Lisa), Sonya Salisbury (Steve), Debbie Walton (Steve), Randy Murray (Monica), Pam Mills and Dennis Murray. Jo is also survived by many great and great great nieces and nephews and her beloved little dog "Sophie". Jo was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Sunny Ames, by her sister June Siekman, by her brothers Vernon "Sox" Murray and Walter Murray, by her sister in law Bonnie Murray, by her brothers in law Donald Siekman and Donald Burress and by her nephews Gary Siekman and Terry Siekman.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Friday, September 22nd, 2023 at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Rev. Jim Jenkins officiating. Visitation will be held 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Friday, September 22nd at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery.
