Earl Wayne Holmes, 82, of Fairview, IN, passed away at 11:51 PM, Sunday, November 22nd, at King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, IN. Earl was born in Frankfort, KY on June 15, 1938, a son of the late Nancy Ellen (Osborn) and Edward Holmes. Earl was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a school bus driver for Switzerland County Schools for 19 years. Earl also drove 20 years for Young's trucking and worked 2 years for Catch-A-Ride before his retirement. Earl was a member of the NRA, Switzerland County Antique Tractor Pulling Association and the Indiana Sheriff's Association. Earl enjoyed farming, tractor pulling and collecting guns and knives. He also enjoyed hanging out at the gun club with his buddies. Spending time with his family is what he enjoyed most.
Earl is survived by two daughters, Kim Smith (Jeff), of Germantown, OH and Traci Walston (Joe), of Patriot, IN; by three sons, David Holmes (Stephanie), of Fairview, IN; Charles Holmes, of Rising Sun, IN and Larry Robinson, of Rising Sun, IN; by 12 grandchildren: Grace Holmes, Landon & Makenzie Walston, Eugene, Matthew & Adam Combs, Rustyn Thies, Kasey Booker, Whitney Johnston, Brent & William Hudson and Jeri Smith; by 19 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Earl is also survived by a sister, Deborah Frazier, of Indianapolis, IN. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, by his daughter Edith Renea Thies and by sisters: Wynonia Mosier, Beulah Richards, Louise O'Conner and Joyce Turner.
Funeral services will be 1 PM, Friday, November 27th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Brother Roy Duckworth officiating. Visitation will be held 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Friday, November 27th at Markland Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be at Cedar Hedge Cemetery in Rising Sun, IN. Memorial donations may be made to the Rising Sun American Legion Post 59.
