Edwin Dale Hayes, Sr.

Edwin Hayes Sr. passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones
on December 13, 2021 at the age of 83 years old. Edwin was born in Dillsboro,
Indiana on September 6, 1938 to the late William (Bill) and Goldie (Martin)
Hayes. Edwin married the love of his life, Ruby (Hogsten) Hayes on April 8,
1960. He lived the majority of his life in Rising Sun on Downey Ridge. Together,
Edwin and Ruby built a wonderful life together and were married 58 years.
Together, Edwin and Ruby had 4 children (3 daughters, 1 son). Edwin spent his
life as a truck driver, farming (which included milking cows and setting tobacco),
and spending time with his family. He loved his family dearly and always looked
forward to visiting with them. It was not out of the ordinary to look out the window
of their homes to see his pickup truck in the driveway just stopping by for a visit.
Especially after the love of his life Ruby passed away in 2018. Eddie was quite
the mechanic and it was not uncommon to see him helping to fix a car for
someone in the family. He had a hard life growing up in the times of the world he
lived in, but with Ruby by his side he knew they could get through anything
together and they did. We are sure that Ruby greeted him with open arms as he
crossed the gates of Heaven to be with her once again. Edwin is survived by 3
daughters, Kim Prakel (Tom) of Lawrenceburg, IN; Susan Hill (Max) of Butlerville,
IN; Wanda House (Eric) of Aurora, IN; 1 son Edwin Hayes Jr. of Rising Sun. Those
children blessed him with 9 grandchildren; Destiny Rutzel (Dave), Majestica
Placke (Zach), Montana Prakel, Mckenna Prakel, Jaclyn Vanosdol (Jimmy),
Malcolm Hill (Juliana), Amber Drake (Cody), Joseph House (Abby), and Tyler
Hayes and 15 Great-grandchildren (Chloe, Easton, Adalyn, Chesney, Dane,
Kallyon, Kayzen, Luca, Eleanor, Casen, Coleson, Karsyn, Lilly, Iva, and
Hayeslee. Edwin is also survived by other family and friends that loved him
dearly. He was preceded in death by his loving wife (Ruby Hayes), his parents
(William and Goldie Hayes), and brother (Harold Hayes).

Funeral services will be 10 AM, Saturday, December 18th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Rev. Mike Jones officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 PM on Friday, December 17th at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made towards funeral expense.
