Ernest Lynn "Butch" Hunter, 78, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away on Friday, July 18th, 2025 at his home. Butch was born in Milan, IN on September 20, 1946, a son of the late Francis (Peters) Smith and William Elmer Hunter. He was a graduate of Aurora High School, Class of 1965. He was the husband of Corinne (Dennis) Hunter. They were married on April 23, 1966 in Aurora, IN. Butch and Corinne were married over 59 years until his passing. Butch proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Butch worked as a chief operator at Monsanto and then later for the Bayer Corporation, retiring in 2002 after 32 years of service. He was a former member of the Rising Sun Lions Club. Butch coached little league baseball in Rising Sun for many years and also coached peewee and junior high football. Butch loved the outdoors and was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Butch also liked spending time in his shed tinkering on different projects. He dearly loved watching his grandkids in sports and never missed a game.
Butch is survived by his loving wife, Corinne Hunter, of Rising Sun, IN; by his daughter, Tami Hunter, of East Enterprise, IN; by his two sons Jeff Hunter (Shasta), of Vevay, IN and Jason Hunter, of Rising Sun, IN; by grandchildren, Tasha Powers (Danny), Nathan Hunter and Baylie Hunter (Adam Bailey); by step grandchildren, Zach, Allena and Ethan Weaver and by great grandchildren, Aubree and Hunter. Butch was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Shelah Nickell.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, July 22nd, 2025 at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN. Visitation will be held 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2025 at Markland Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery.
