Felix Mathias Massey III, 78, of Rising Sun, Indiana, passed away at 6:33 AM, Monday, June 28, 2021 at the Ridgewood Health Campus, Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Felix was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on May 22, 1943, a son of the late Kathryne (Jones) Hogin and Felix Mathias Massey, Jr.. He was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, obtaining his Master's Degree in biology plus 8 hours. Felix proudly served his country for 34 years in total, serving 32 years in the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant Colonel and serving 2 years in the U.S. Marines. He was additionally employed as a teacher at Rising Sun High School for 32 years and taught chemistry, physics, biology, and computer programming and was very beloved by his students. On September 13, 1968, Felix married Anita Kay Swinford. They were married for over 53 years until his passing. Felix enjoyed listening to music, working in his yard, playing with the family dogs, cooking, and collecting stamps and artillery, and was a member of the Rising Sun United Methodist Church.
Felix is survived by his loving wife, Anita Massey of Rising Sun, Indiana; brother, John Massey and his wife, Susan, of Florida; brother-in-laws, Frank Swinford and wife, Sandy, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Edwin Swinford Jr. of California; in addition to several nieces and nephews. Felix was preceded in death by his parents.
A public visitation will be held 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Friday, July 2nd at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, Indiana. Funeral will be 1:00 PM Friday, July 2nd at the Markland Funeral Home with Rev. Laura McDonald officiating with interment to follow at the Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Rising Sun United Methodist Church (RSUMC) or the Ohio County Animal Shelter.
