Gale Leroy Bovard, 78, of Greendale, IN, passed away on Monday, May 3rd, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. Gale was born in Milan, IN on March 25, 1943, a son of the late Marjorie (Whitham) Bovard and Charles Hilbert Bovard. Gale attended Cass Union Elementary School and was a graduate of Rising Sun High School, Class of 1961.
During the Vietnam War, Gale proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a SP4, specializing in Avionics Repair. While in service Gale received the National Defense Service Medal, Expert (Rifle M-14), Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. After his return from the military, Gale continued his career as an Avionics Technician at Luken Airport and then with Comair for over 25 years. Gale was a member of the Lawrenceburg American Legion Post #239 and the OVI Mohawk Association. Gale was also a faithful member of the Trinity Christian Center in Lawrenceburg, IN. Gale loved the outdoors and enjoyed golfing, gardening and walking and biking the trails near where he lived. Gale was a Chevy man and his Camaro was his pride and joy.
Gale is survived by two daughters, Amy McKay and husband Joe, of Rising Sun, IN and Melissa Ricketts and husband Michael, of Wenatchee, WA; by grandson Ryan Ricketts and wife Beth, of St. Louis, MO; by granddaughter Piper McKay, of Rising Sun, IN; by three brothers, Gary Bovard, of Ft. Wright, KY; Rodger Bovard and wife Bonnie, of Aberdeen, IN and Tim Bovard, of Rising Sun, IN. He is also survived by brother-in-law Raymond Slack, of Rising Sun, IN. Gale was preceded in death by his parents, by his companion of over 25 years, Kathleen Harris, by his sister, Shirley Ann Slack and by his sister-in-law, Suzanne Bovard.
Funeral services will be 1 PM, Friday, May 7th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN. Visitation will be held 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Friday, May 7th at Markland Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to any Veteran's Organization of the Donor's Choice.
