George N. Whitaker, 78, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away on Saturday, July 3rd, 2021 at his residence. George was born in Cincinnati, OH on August 17, 1942, a son of the late Louise (Ward) Whitaker and Robert Lee Whitaker. He grew up in the Cincinnati community and attended school there. At a young age George went work for the Formica Corporation in Evendale, OH. He was employed there for over 40 years until his retirement from the quality control lab. George loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also liked to go bowling and golfing. George was a sports fan, especially of his Cincinnati Reds and Bengals. George was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Cincinnati. George was the husband of Kathleen Burdine. They were married on July 3, 2001. George and Kathy were married 20 years until his passing on their anniversary. George had had a loving and outgoing personality. He also had a mischievous side and was always ready with a joke or prank to pull. George was a beloved husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, brother and friend to many and will be deeply missed.
George is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen Burdine, of Rising Sun, IN; by his beloved daughter, Kathryn Darnell, of Eastgate, OH; by 5 grandchildren: Rob Abner, Courtney Luke (Matt Massengill), Saraya Abner, Kelsie Whitaker and Bryanna Darnell and by 4 great grandchildren: Aubree, Nyelle, Axel and Naomi. George is also survived by a sister, Jan Douglas (Harvey), of Paradise, TX and a brother, Carl Whitaker (Carol), of Fairfield Township, OH. George was preceded in death by his parents, by his son Robert Whitaker in 2017, by 3 brothers; Wendell, Glenn and Joe Whitaker and by 3 sisters; Mary Hines, Rose Burdine and Barb Little.
Funeral services will be at 10 AM, Saturday, July 10th at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN. Visitation will be held 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, July 9th at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Premier Hospice. marklandfuneralhome.com
