Helen Marie (Thies) Monroe

Helen Marie Monroe, 91, of Ohio County, IN, passed away on Saturday, September 17th, 2022 at St. Elizabeth Dearborn in Lawrenceburg, IN. Helen was born in Ohio County, IN on August 3, 1931, a daughter of the late Alma (Bodey) Thies and Everett  Thies. Helen grew up in Ohio County and was a 1949 graduate of Rising Sun High School. Helen married Don Roy Monroe on July 19, 1952. Helen and Don Roy were married for 56 years until his passing on September 19, 2008. In addition to helping Don Roy on the farm, Helen always raised a large garden and did a lot of canning. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting and doing ceramics. Helen was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ and a long time member of the Happy Homemakers Home Ec Club.

Helen is  survived by three sons: David Monroe, of Dillsboro, IN;  Daniel Monroe (Vickie), of Dillsboro, IN and Mark Monroe, of Dillsboro, IN;  by eight grandchildren: Matthew Monroe (Amy), Stephanie Monroe, Melissa Cheek (Thomas), Douglas Monroe (Rachel), Mindy Smith (Mike), Andrew Monroe (Megan), Amy Monroe and Chrissy Monroe (Terry Grace); by eight great grandchildren: Brennan, Mason, Olivia, Vivian, Thomas, Hunter, Chelsia and Gabriella. Helen is also survived by a sister, Betty Markle, of PA and a brother, Charles Thies (Donna), of Manchester, IN. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Don Roy Monroe, by her sister Carolyn Thies and by her daughter-in-law Cindy Monroe.
 
Funeral services will be 11 AM, Wednesday, September 21st, 2022 at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Eldon Fancher officiating. Visitation will be held 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 20th at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery.
