Helen Marie (Broadus) Smith

Helen Marie (Broadus) Smith, 92, of Burlington, KY (formerly of Rising Sun, IN) passed away on January 20th, 2026 at Boonespring Nursing Facility. Helen was born in Indianapolis, IN on January 27, 1933, a daughter of the late Mary Margaret (White) Broadus and John Broadus. Helen married Chester Ray Smith on April 5th, 1952 in Rising Sun, IN. Helen and Chester were married over 59 years until his passing in 2011. She worked various jobs over the years but providing a loving home to her family was her true devotion. Helen was a member of the Rising Sun Methodist Church. She also belonged to the Young Hearts Home Ec Club in Ohio County and was also a former member of the Switzerland County Home Ec Club when the family lived in the Quercus Grove community. Helen was a great cook and very talented with a needle and thread. In her later years she enjoyed spending her time reading and completing adult coloring books. Helen had a kind and caring nature and was a loving mom, grandma, sister, aunt and friend to many.

Helen is  survived by her daughter, Cyndie Smith, of Burlington, KY; by her son, Steve Smith and wife Lisa, of Hoover, AL; by her grandchildren: Matthew Smith and wife Carly, of Portland, OR and  Kristin Smith, of Vestavia Hills, AL;  by her sister, Susan  Hichew, of Lyons, IL; by her brother, Dick Broadus and wife JoAnn, of Madison, IN; by her sister-in-law, Carolyn Broadus, of Upton, KY and by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband, Chester, by a brother, Mike Broadus and by a sister, Jayne Allen.
 
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Thursday, January 29th, 2026 at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Tom Work officiating. Visitation will be held 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Thursday, January 29th at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rising Sun Methodist Church or the Burlington Fire/EMS Protection District.
