Hilbert Wayne Keith

Hilbert Wayne Keith, 87, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away on Sunday, December 15th, 2019 at Highpoint Health in Lawrenceburg, IN. Hilbert was born in Switzerland County, IN on December 15, 1932, a son of the late Gerogia Mae (Ray) and Melvin  Keith. He attended West Union Grade School and was a 1950 graduate of Patriot High School. After graduation Hilbert began work for the Ashland Oil Company on a barge that ran from Ashland, KY to New Orleans. He later worked for Schenley Distillery before entering the US Navy. Hilbert proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1952 to 1956. While in the Navy, he served on the aircraft carrier USS Hancock and received the National Defense Service Medal. Upon his return from the military, he began work for the Soil Conservation Service. Hilbert also worked at I&M and drove a school bus for the Switzerland County School Corporation for over 30 years. No matter what other job he had, Hilbert loved farming and did it his entire life. Hilbert gained a son, Steven Allen and a daughter, Nancy Lynn when he married Sarah Ann (Peelman) Keith on Nov. 17, 1956. Later on, a son, Dale Robert and daughters, Michelle Ann and Joanne would come along to make his family complete. Hilbert loved to go bird hunting and play golf. He was also a very good bowler and fast pitch softball player. He played basketball in school and while in service. Hilbert was an IU and Colts fan. He was also a member of the Rising Sun American Legion where he would like to go and sit and talk with friends.
Hilbert is  survived by a son, Dale Keith and wife Kathy, of Rising Sun, IN; by three daughters, Nancy Scott and husband Rick, of Rising Sun, IN; Michelle Self and husband Wyatt, of Moorefield, IN and Joanne  Keith, of Vevay, IN; by grandchildren: Travis Myers (Tina), Jeff Thornton ( Alisha), Jason Scott (Kristal), Jody Pitts(Marty), Chad Scott, Erin Lamkin (Dustin), Candice Aguilar (Eddie), Kimberly Barkman (Nicholas), Kyle Self (Shauna), Alex Curran, Ben Curran & Natalie Sullivan and by great grandchildren: Morgan, Bayley, Kendal, Trey, Addison, Jordan, Lindsay, Michael, Jake, Sydney, Carson, Lance & Laurin. Hilbert was preceded in death by his parents, by a sister, Naomi Christene White, by brothers, Carlisle Keith and Nelson Ray Keith, by a son, Steven Allen Myers and by a great grandson, Trent Myers.
Funeral services will be 2 PM, Thursday, December 19th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Rev. Mike Jones officiating. Friends are invited to call Wednesday 5-8 PM at Markland Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be at New Liberty Cemetery in East Enterprise, IN.
