Janet Ruth Thies

     Janet Ruth Thies, formerly Janet Hayes, age 82, of Rising Sun, IN passed away peacefully in her home with her family at her side on January 19, 2021, following a sudden and brief illness. Janet was a proud and strong Breast Cancer Survivor but was unable to overcome advanced Pancreatic Cancer.

     Janet was a long time employee of the Schenley Distillery, first in the Cincinnati office location then at the Greendale, IN location. She later worked at the Woodspoint Care Center in Florence, KY before devoting her golden years to her family.

     Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Orville S. “Jack” Thies and Norma “Jean” Thies. She also had recently lost her beloved brother, James “Jimmy” Thies and sister-in-law, Josephine “Jo” Thies.

     Janet is survived by her brother, William “Bill” (Sandy) Thies, children, David (Melissa) Hayes and Deanna (Chris) Wallace. Also surviving are her pride and joy, her grandchildren; Alex (Kayla) Oser, Kennedy Oser, Keira Oser, DJ Williams, Ella Wallace, Abby Wallace, and Jacob Hayes. Also left to grieve her passing are nephews, Rob (Dee) Thies, Bill Thies, Jr., John Thies, and niece, Kim (Mike) Hussong and their families, family friend, Angie (Dale) Turner and life-long friends, Rita Ashcraft and Diane Gardt.

     In honoring Janet’s final wishes, a public graveside service will be held on Friday, January 22, 2021 at 1:00 PM at the Rising Sun New Cemetery.

     Janet would be so proud if memorials are directed to the Ohio County Historical Society for the establishment of a collection of memorabilia honoring the contributions of the Orville S.
