Josephine Immacolata (Del Grosso) D’Agostino, 87, of Rising Sun, Indiana, formerly of Italy, passed away peacefully Tuesday February 10, 2026, in the presence and comfort of her family and loved ones, at Shady Nook Care Center in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, where she had been receiving care for the last few years. Josephine was born on November 29, 1938, in Comune di Baselice, Italy, a daughter of the late Leonardo Del Grosso and Angelamaria (Ferro). Josephine’s childhood was filled with the beauty and simplicity of life in the rural countryside. Josephine shared her passion for her roots with her husband and children, with the family returning yearly to Italy after moving to the United States. Faith was also entrusted and engrained early on in Josephine’s life. Her faith was a treasure that Josephine carried close to her heart all her life, and now she reaps the fullness of that reward, echoing the words of scripture, “Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your master.”
Love was the guiding light and theme of Josephine’s life. Following the completion of her education, she went on to have a longtime career of over 33 years in nursing, caring for and working in the oncological and birthing units. On November 16, 1963, she was married to the late Francesco D’Agostino. The couple enjoyed 58 years together in marriage until Francesco’s passing on July 12, 2022. Two sons were welcomed to this union, Leonardo “Lenny” D’Agostino and Francesco “Frank” D’Agostino, who were the delight of their mother. Cooking was one of the biggest ways Josephine showed her love for her family. Josephine was a true traditional Italian cook, constantly creating lavish meals, measuring always from the heart and never from a recipe card. She was also a notable singer and loved to share her talents performing in clubs and singing in the church where she faithfully attended mass, and could often be heard singing around the home as she worked and tended to her tasks. Josephine’s life was lived with the fullest measure of care for her family.
Josephine is survived by sons Leonardo “Lenny” D’Agostino and his wife Lori of Rising Sun, Indiana and Francesco “Frank” D’Agostino and his wife Nicole of Orange, Connecticut; sister Lucia Del Vecchio of Steger, Illinois; grandchildren Anthony D’Agostino, Nicholas D’Agostino, and Christopher D’Agostino and his fiancé Morgan; as well as several nieces and nephews. Josephine was preceded in death by her parents Leonardo and Angelamaria Del Grosso; husband Francesco D’Agostino; and brothers Antonio “Uncle Tony” Del Grosso and Rosario “Uncle Russ” Del Grosso.
