Kathy Ann (Shepherd) Halloran

Kathy Ann Halloran, 70, of Rising Sun, Indiana, passed away March 14, 2026 at the Waters of Rising Sun. Kathy was born in Laurel, Indiana on February 9, 1956, a daughter of Floyd and Katherine (Witt) Shepherd. Kathy completed her schooling and devoted herself to the raising of her family. Kathy was the wife of Joseph “Big Joe” Halloran. The couple enjoyed over 21 years together in marriage until his passing on November 28, 2018. Kathy and Joe created countless fond memories with their families over the years, and enjoyed taking their camper to Brookville Lake to camp and fish. No matter what they were doing, laughter was sure to be heard. Kathy nourished her family through her loving care and her cooking.  After becoming a resident at The Waters, Kathy was fond of playing bingo and participating in all the activities offered at the nursing home. Kathy was a member of Trinity Christian Center and a volunteer for Clearing House Food Pantry.

Kathy is survived by sons Russell Whitaker (Nina) of Vevay, Indiana and Joe Whitaker (Gia) of Lawrenceburg, Indiana; brother Chris Shepherd (Carol) of Texas; grandchildren Zach, Kaylen, Kinsey, Bryson, Cheyanne, Gabriel, Julieanne, Joe, Nicole, Chase, Kirsten, Emalee, Sidney, Macey, Alyssa, Kendra, Austin, and Angela; as well as many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Katherine Shepherd; husband Joseph “Big Joe” Halloran; brothers Bob Shepherd, Troy Shepherd, and Floyd Shepherd; sisters Carol “Turtle” Elrod, Linda Wade, and Janet Combs.

Services will be held Thursday March 19th at the Markland Funeral Home, visitation 5:00 – 7:00 PM and funeral at 7:00 PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to Waters of Rising Sun – Activity Fund.
