Larry Ray Whitham, age 79, of McCordsville, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Golden Living Sycamore Village in Kokomo. He was born in Rising Sun, Indiana on December 6, 1941 to Harold and Myrtle (Slack) Whitham. He graduated from Rising Sun High School in 1959 and received his associates degree in 1978 from IU East – Richmond in law enforcement. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War in 1966-1968 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Larry married Joann (Pence) on March 14, 1964 in Rising Sun.
He was a conservation officer for the State of Indiana in Brookville for 10 years. Larry also worked for Sun Electric in Indiana, Ohio, Florida, and Georgia for 15 years where he had many leadership roles. He was a past member of Brookville Masonic Lodge. Larry liked fishing, boating, hunting, and traveling. Most of all he loved spending time with his family.
Larry is survived by his wife, Joann Whitham of McCordsville; children, Amber (Darrell) Brown of Harrison, OH, Nikki Whitham of Pendleton, and Eric (Tara) Whitham of Georgia; five grandchildren, Dana, Zachary, Noah, Anna, and Zander; and a sister, Rita (Kenneth) Ashcraft of Rising Sun. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Myrtle Whitham; and a brother, Ronald Whitham.
A private graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, IN with full military rites presented. As a reminder, the government mandate requires guests to wear masks. We are limited to a capacity of 25 guests at a time and please practice social distancing.
A celebration of life will be held in Rising Sun, IN on a later date.
