Lauretta (Riggs) Humphrey, 94, of Rising Sun, Indiana passed away Sunday July 23rd, 2023 at Saint Elizabeth Dearborn Hospital. Lauretta was born on Cole Lane in Aurora, IN on August 28, 1928; she was the sixth child of John Thomas and Edith Wilda Riggs. She graduated from Aurora High School in 1946 and the Milton Academy of Beauty Culture in 1947. She was a part time beautician for 17 years, a Cub Scout den-mother for six years, and a loyal employee of Dugle's grocery in Rising Sun, IN. On July 1, 1950 Lauretta married the late James David Humphrey; together they had three children; Mary Edith Potter (George), John David Humphrey, and Robert Earl Humphrey (Trish).
Lauretta is survived by her daughter Mary Edith Potter (George); son Robert Earl Humphrey (Trish); seven grandchildren: Jason Potter (Jenise), Aaron Potter (Delora), Paul David Humphrey, Amanda Vann (Randy), Jeffrey Humphrey, Kelly Deatley, Thomas Humphrey (Christian); by 19 great grandchildren, Janessa Laurett Potter, Josephine Charlise Bessler (Issac), Jillian Catherine Potter, Joella Elise Potter, Jude Augustus Potter, Courtney Nicole Mathews (Rodney), Kendall Renae Potter, Dylan Wade Potter (Rebecca), Laura Lynn Humphrey, Jonathan David Humphrey, Ryken Alexander Humphrey, Lillian Morgan Humphrey, Peyton Michael Vann, Jasmine Renee Deatley, Noah Lawrence Deatley, Ethan Lawrence Deatley, Jordan Blake Humphrey, Emma Ruth Humphrey, and Landon Drake; great-great grandchildren Mariah Nicole Mathews, Paisley Faye Lopez, Carlos Lopez Jr III; sister Rosalie Kippler, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Lauretta was preceded in death by her parents, husband James Humphrey, son John David, sisters Thelma Thies and Lucine Johnson, brothers Oliver and John Riggs, and great-grandson James Cody Deatley.
Memorial donations may be made to Ohio County Rescue Unit or Rising Sun Fire Department.
Funeral service will be held at 1 PM Thursday, July 27th, 2023 at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN. Public visitation will be held 11 AM to 1 PM Thursday, July 27th, 2023 at Markland Funeral Home.
