Laverne (Reed) Craig

Laverne Craig, 83, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away at 3:53 AM, Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Dearborn in Lawrenceburg, IN. Laverne was born in Switzerland County, IN on March 3, 1938, a daughter of the late Alberta (Ford) Reed and Henry Reed. She was a graduate of Vevay High School Class of 1956. Laverne was employed at the Vevay Shoe Factory and retired in 1999 after over 40 years of service. She also worked at Grand Victoria Casino for a short period. Laverne married Melvin Craig on June 2, 1956 in East Enterprise, IN. Laverne and Melvin were married over 63 years until his passing on October 29, 2019. Laverne and Melvin enjoyed bowling, camping and taking bus trips. Spending time surrounded by her family was her greatest joy.

Laverne is survived by son, Jeff Craig (Teresa) of Rising Sun, IN; daughters Tammy Buschle (Jerry) of Rising Sun, IN and Ronda Martin (Marion) of Rising Sun, IN; brothers Ronnie Reed (Amber) of Bennington, IN, Marvin Reed of Mexico, IN, and Mark Reed (Patsy) of Vevay, IN; sister Pam Reed (Larry) of Castle Rock, CO; grandchildren Leah Ash (Joel), Brittany Wyatt, Joshua Craig (Sam), Justin Craig (Suzy), and Zachery Smith; great grandchildren Trenton, Wyatt, Kiana, Autumn, Westin, Justin Jr., Henry, and Charlie. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by brother Randy Reed and sister Joy Sokoloski.
 
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 7, at 11 AM at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN. Visitation will be held Friday, August 6, from 4 -7 PM at  Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. marklandfuneralhome.com
