Leitha Mae (Busse) O'Day

Leitha Mae (Busse) O’Day, 86, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2022, at St. Elizabeth Dearborn Hospital. Leitha was born in Wilmington, IN on June 15, 1936, a daughter of the late Christian Busse and Irene (Huxsall). Leitha was a graduate of the Rising Sun High School Class of 1954. She was employed as an administrative assistant for S & O/Gregory Insurance Company and Cincinnati Bell in her younger years, as well as babysitting for various families over the years. On September 5, 1984, Leitha was married to Earl Edwin O’Day, who preceded her in death on July 16, 2013.

Leitha was very passionate about her family and her faith and was a member of the Rising Sun First United Church of Christ. She also enjoyed baking, walking, sewing, and watching ball games and cheering on the Shiners, Hoosiers, and Reds.

Leitha is survived by son Bret Martin (Barbara) of Lawrenceburg, IN; daughters Renee Cole (David) of Rising Sun, IN and Ynez Taylor of Rising Sun, IN; grandchildren Sean Cole of Dillsboro, IN, Devin Cole (Sheri) of Nicholasville, KY, Darci Bayne (Andrew) of Aurora, IN, Shelby Taylor-Hochstrasser of Lawrenceburg, IN, Kaylie Martin (Hunter) of Lawrenceburg, IN, and Mitchell Martin of Lawrenceburg, IN; great-grandchildren Davian, Lincoln, Adam, Kessler, Kellen, Elliott, Ryan, and Abram; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers Arnold Busse and Russell Busse.

A public visitation will be held Friday, October 14th, from 11 AM – 1 PM at the Markland Funeral Home. Funeral will be Friday, October 14th at 1 PM at the Markland Funeral Home with burial to follow at Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Church of Christ, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Rising Sun High School Athletic Fund.
