Margaret (White) Murray

Margaret Murray, 85, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at The Waters of Rising Sun. Margaret was born on November 11, 1938 in Elkhorn, KY, a daughter of the late Louise (VanDyke) and Harold White. Margaret attended Rising Sun High School. She was employed for over 30 years with Kroger’s, also working at Tandy’s and Grand Victoria Casino. On August 25, 1956, she was married to Ernest William “Junior” Murray, who preceded her in death on April 21, 1990. The couple worked together farming, raising tobacco and milking. Together they raised their four beloved daughters and enjoyed the many grandchildren that came over the years.

Margaret is survived by daughters Renda Thompson of Rising Sun, IN, Conda Harris of Taylor Mills, KY, Lucinda Walston (Gary) of Rising Sun, IN, and Glenda Gould (Randy Beckett) of Rising Sun, IN; sisters Elizabeth Zerkle of Rising Sun, IN, Peggy Cutter of Riverview, FL, and Denise Southgate (Paul) of Lexington, KY; grandchildren Crystal Overholser (Darin), Cassandra Craig, Chasity Dowdee, Cary Zoz (Justin), Stacy Bell (Nicholas), Jeremy Thompson (Krystal), Bobby Holden and Dustin Harris; and 14 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Margaret was preceded in death by grandchildren Dustin Lewis and Tracy Smith, and great grandchild Lauren Thompson.

A public graveside service will be held Monday, December 18th  at 11 AM at the Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Markland Funeral Home of Rising Sun, IN serving the family. marklandfuneralhome.com
