Melanie Lanier, 62, of Dillsboro, IN passed away June 20th, 2020 in Columbus, OH. She was born on May 23, 1958 in Orange, California, a daughter of the late Ernie and Marjorie Rigdon. She went on to obtain an associate’s degree from the Golden West College and was employed as a payroll supervisor.
Melanie was a sweet, kind, caring, and loving woman. “Mel” and Chris were married on October 4, 1980 and enjoyed almost 40 years together. They did not have any children but filled their lives by caring for rescue dogs of many different breeds and the animals were dearly loved. Melanie and Chris worked and lived most of their lives in Huntington Beach, California. They owned a home in a wonderful neighborhood filled with many close friends and family. From there, the couple moved to Dillsboro, Indiana, in the Bear Branch area, where they also made many more great friends, such as Melanie’s duo, Pam and Tracy. No matter where they were, Melanie and Chris always enjoyed their life together. She was such a fighter during her illness and will forever be missed and remembered for being a truly amazing person.
In addition to her husband Chris Lanier of Dillsboro, IN, Melanie is survived by brother Eddie (Joan) Rigdon of California, brother-in-law Richard C. Lanier of Dillsboro, IN, sisters Renee Rigdon of California, Norma (Tom) Winters of Arizona, Arlene Moorhead of Oregon, aunt and uncle Ron and Marilyn Lanier of Huntington Beach, CA, nieces Tammy and Debra, as well as her nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. In addition to her parents, Melanie is preceded in death by brother-in-law Skip Moorhead.
