Michael Fredric Wilson

Michael Fredric Wilson, of Rising Sun, IN  was born in Frankfort, IN on June 1, 1938, a son of the late Pearl (Michael) and Howard  Wilson. He was a graduate of Michigantown High School. Mike received a Bachelor's Degree from Purdue University and later on achieved his Masters Degree from Indiana University. Mike retired from Rising Sun Schools in 2000 after 40 years of dedicated service. In addition to teaching, he was the Athletic Director from 1962 to 2000. Mike was also varsity basketball coach from 1962 - 1968 and from 1982 - 1995. During this time the Shiners won four sectional titles in 1983, 1984, 1987 and 1989. Mike also served as varsity track coach for a time. He was the husband of Shelia  (Ginter) Wilson. Mike and Shelia were married on August 23, 1974, in Aurora, IN. Mike and Shelia were married over 46 years until his passing. He was a member of the Rising Sun Church of Christ.  Mike enjoyed golfing, watching his favorite teams on TV, golf cart rides, all Shiner sports and working on his lawn. His favorite pastime was sharing in  all of his grandkids' activities and events. Mike was a true pillar of the community and the influence he had on Ohio County's youth will be felt for generations to come. Mike passed away at 10:51 AM, Tuesday, November 3rd, at Highpoint Health in Lawwrenceburg, IN at the age of 82.

Mike is survived by his wife, Shelia Wilson, of Rising Sun, IN; by three daughters, Teresa Hornsby (Andre), of Rising Sun, IN; Michele Rice (Rusty), of Rising Sun, IN and Jerilyn Lambert (Tim), of Rising Sun, IN; by three sons, Scott Wilson (Mark Loehr), of Portland, OR;  Todd Wilson (Cassie), of Ekron, KY and  Joshua Wilson (Julie), of Rising Sun, IN; by 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Mike is also survived by a sister, Nancy Fearnow, of Frankfort, IN; by a brother, Robert Wilson (Michalene), of Duncanville, TX and by special family friend, Sue Mitchell, of Rising Sun, IN. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Howard & Pearl Wilson and by his sisters, Jane Mertz and Joanne Record.
 
Private family services will be held on Thursday, November 5th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN. Burial will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rising Sun High School Athletics. Donations may be sent to Markland Funeral Home and the family will be notified with a card.
