Michael James Younger

Michael James Younger, 86, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away February 29, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Florence, KY. Mike was born in Cincinnati, OH on March 17, 1937, a son of the late Nell (Tyree) and Saul J. Younger. Mike obtained his high school degree from Kentucky Military Institute in Louisville, KY. Following graduation, Mike served his country in the United States Army and had begun to pursue his engineering degree at Purdue University, when due to the illness of his father, it came Mike’s turn to operate the family business, Elm Café, a duty he successfully upheld for many years. After the café’s eventual closing, Mike became a card dealer and was employed at the local casinos. On August 25, 1962, Mike was married to Mary Carol Luken at Our Lady of Lourdes in Cincinnati, OH. The couple enjoyed over 61 years together in marriage until his passing.

Mike is survived by his wife, Mary Younger of Rising Sun, IN, as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Mike was preceded in death by sisters Jean Cook and Dorothy Rothage.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 5th, at the Markland Funeral Home from 11 AM – 1 PM. Funeral will be held Tuesday, March 5th, at the Markland Funeral Home at 1 PM with John Hobson officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Rising Sun Church of Christ or the Ohio County Rescue Unit.
