Norma Jean (Foutty) Caplinger

Norma Jean Caplinger, 94, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away on Thursday, November 30th, 2023 at The Waters of Dillsboro. Jean was born in Ohio County, IN on December 2, 1928, a daughter of the late Eva (Hughes) Foutty and George Harris Foutty. She was a graduate of Rising Sun High School, Class of 1946. Jean married Harold Wayne Caplinger on October 1st, 1949 in Rising Sun, IN. Jean and Wayne were married over 66 years until his passing on May 9, 2016. They owned and operated the Rising Sun Dairy Queen for 20 years, from 1968 to 1988. Jean was also self employed as a beautician. Jean was a member of the Rising Sun Church of Christ. Jean and Wayne loved to travel and spent the winters in Florida for many years. Jean was artistic and enjoyed making crafts and pottery. Jean is survived by her son, Thomas Caplinger, of Rising Sun, IN; by 5 grandchildren, Jerri Lynn Jackson (Ronald), Michelle Caplinger, Rachel Webb (Jim), Tom Caplinger (Erin) and Kristen Earls (Brian); by her great grandchildren: Shelby, Derek, Aulden, Dillon, Marla Jo, Bella, Jaxon, Nate, Haley, Emily, Audrey and Owen. Jean is also survived by sisters-in-law, JoAnn Caplinger, Mary Foutty, Saundra Gurly and Faye Caplinger and by brother-in-law, Gary Caplinger (Pam) and by several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Wayne Caplinger, by her son Jerry Caplinger in 1969, by her brothers, Bill, Joe and James Foutty and by her sister, Margaret Fields.
 
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, December 5th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Roger Webb officiating. Visitation will be held 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Tuesday, December 5th at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery.
