Robert Lee Buchanan

Robert Lee (Bobby) Buchanan, 64, of Columbus, IN formerly of Rising Sun, IN, passed
away on June 2 nd , 2026. Bobby was born on April 25 th , 1962, in Lawrenceburg, IN to Lee
Jr. and Doris Buchanan. He was a graduate of Rising Sun High School, Class of 1980,
and spent much of his life living in and raising tobacco on many of the family farms
around Ohio County. Aside from farming he held many positions over the years at the
Laughery Valley Ag Co-op in Dillsboro, IN, Consolidated Grain and Barge in Aurora, IN,
and North American Stainless in Ghent, KY to name a few.
In his younger years Bobby enjoyed racing muscle cars, especially his 75 Trans Am,
and his Plymouth Roadrunners as well as four-wheeling in his 78 Chevy short bed.
Later he began custom combining for local farmers before eventually becoming a
farmer himself.
Bobby had many hobbies and interests over the years, such as vacationing in Florida,
attending the Farm Machinery Show, boating and jet skiing on the Ohio River, watching
and supporting his children in 4-H each summer, as well as his Sunday ritual of
watching NASCAR. He also enjoyed carpentry and spending time with his beloved
animals, especially his original Blue Heeler, Jesse, and most recently his dog, Ranger.
In recent years he enjoyed spending time with his wife, traveling, watching movies,
listening to music on YouTube, and enjoying mornings outside.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Tracy Buchanan (Rowlett) of Columbus, IN, his son Josh
(Stefanie) Buchanan of Rising Sun, IN, his daughter Lakyn (Javita) Buchanan of Rising
Sun, IN, his stepson Chase Caldwell of Columbus, IN, his stepdaughter Eden Caldwell
of Columbus, IN, his brother William “Bill” Buchanan of Muncie, IN, his sister Marilyn
(Danny) Sanders of Columbus, IN, his two grandchildren Ann Marie Buchanan and
Lucius Buchanan, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is proceeded in death by his grandparents William (Nancy Belle) Buchanan,
Granville (Bessie) Bondurant, his parents Lee Jr and Doris Buchanan, and his sisters
Gwendolyn Buchanan, and Audrey Elliott.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 19 th , 2026, from 4 PM to 7 PM at the
Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN.
