Roger Wayne Woodfill

Roger Wayne Woodfill, 80, of Lawrenceburg, IN, passed away on Sunday, June 28th, 2026 at his home. Roger was born in Cincinnati, OH on October 17, 1945, a son of the late Ella Grace (Stow) Woodfill and Robert G. Woodfill. He was a 1963 graduate of Lawrenceburg High School and served as student body president his senior year. Roger continued his education at Purdue University, receiving an Associate's Degree in Civil Engineering Technology in 1967 and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Management in 1969. Roger married Jean (Kirkpatrick) Woodfill on August 31, 1968 at the Aberdeen United Methodist Church. Roger and Jean were married over 57 years at the time of his passing. Roger was owner of the District 9 Land Survey Company which he established in 1972. He was licensed in Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. Roger served 4 terms as Dearborn County Surveyor. He was past president of the Indiana and National Societies of Professional Surveyors. He also served as national administrator for the Surveyors Historical Society and chairman of the Indiana Land Surveyors Political Action Committee. In addition to his professional memberships, Roger was very active in his local community. He was a faithful member of the Community Fellowship Church. He was also a member of the Dearborn and Indiana Historical Societies, the Dearborn County Chamber of Commerce and Dearborn Highland Arts Council. Roger loved attending any activity his children or grandchildren were involved in. He was a former little league baseball coach and youth soccer coach and a founding member of the SAY Soccer Association. Roger was a mentor to so many and eagerly shared his knowledge and advice to those seeking help. Roger had many accomplishments in life, but he was humble and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and relied upon his faith and family.

Roger is survived by his loving wife, Jean Woodfill, of Lawrenceburg, IN; by his two daughters, Susan Herrick, of Lawrenceburg, IN and Molly Hawley (Jonathan), of Lexington, KY; by his two sons, Brian Woodfill (Georgia), of Lancaster, PA and Craig Woodfill (Courtney), of Fishers, IN; by his grandchildren: Andrew Budd, Morgan Budd, Ashlie Woodfill, Nicholas Woodfill, Nathaniel Woodfill, Jonas Hawley, Emma Hawley, Allison Hawley, Creighton Woodfill, Crew Woodfill and Channing Woodfill. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Robert G. & Ella Grace Woodfill; by his brother, Robert D. Woodfill; by his grandparents, Wilbur & Sylvia Stow and Gamaliel & Julia Woodfill. 
 
Visitation will be held 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, July 2nd, 2026 at the Community Fellowship Church in Lawrenceburg, IN. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, July 3rd, 2026 at the Community Fellowship Church. Burial will be at Greendale Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Voices of Indiana or Community Fellowship Church. Markland Funeral Home of Rising Sun, IN is serving the family.
