Roger "Rope" Eugene Smith

Roger Eugene "Rope" Smith, 74, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away on Sunday, April 25th, 2021 at his residence. Roger was born in Cincinnati, OH on February 9, 1947, a son of the late Ruby Christine (Padgett) Smith and Virgil Leon Smith. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Gunner's Mate Petty Officer 3RD Class and was a recipient of a National Defense Service Medal. He was also a member of the Rising Sun American Legion Post 59. Roger worked as a truck driver at Seagrams Distillery for over 30 years. Roger loved animals and to fish and enjoyed making annual trips to Michigan. Spending time with family and friends is what he loved most. Roger is  survived by a daughter, Nicole Able (Steve), of Greensburg, IN; by two sons, Michael Smith (Karalyn), of Rising Sun, IN and  Jeffrey Smith (Debbie), of Milan, IN; by grandchildren: Ashley, Jonathon, Joshua, Brittnay, Michaela, Taylor, Dillan, Tyler, Shane, Shelby, Chris, Marki & Jade and by 13 great grandchildren. Roger is also survived by two brothers, Verlee Smith, of Orlando, FL;  James Ruben "Buck" Smith, of Hamilton, OH and his two dogs Pecker and Bullet. He was preceded in death by his parents, by a son, Mark Smith and by a sister, Ruth Ilene Smith-Harrington.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be to Loving Hearts Hospice or Rising Sun American Legion Post 59. Markland Funeral Home of Rising Sun, IN serving the family.
