Selbert Walter "Seb" Walston, Jr., 83, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away on Monday, September 14th, 2020 at The Waters of Rising Sun. Seb was born in Rising Sun, IN on February 22, 1937, a son of the late Elizabeth (Cole) and Selbert W. Walston, Sr. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Seb was very proud of his time in service and veteran's causes remained important to him. He was a member of the Rising Sun American Legion, Post #59 and member of the Color Guard. Seb was also a life member of the VFW and former commander of Post 5312 in Aurora, IN. He was also a member of the Korean War Veterans Association and the Disabled American Veterans Association. Seb also served his community on the Aurora Fire Department for 10 years. He was a member of the Rising Sun Church of Christ. Seb woked as a truck driver and retired from Legge Construction in 1998. He also drove for Yelton Excavating & Trucking and the Aurora Lumber Company. In his younger years Seb enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing horseshoes. Seb would often be seen walking his dog "Shorty" around town and people would pull over and talk to him. Seb never met a stranger and treated you like his best friend.
Seb is survived by two daughters, Bethany L. Chapman and husband Terry, of Rising Sun, IN and Rebecca L. Couch and husband Timothy, of Scottsburg, IN; by a son, David C. Walston, of Aurora, IN; by daughter-in-law, Myra Walston, of Rising Sun, IN; by 9 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; by a sister, Violet E. Randall, of Greendale, IN; by a brother, William W. Walston, of Rising Sun, IN and by several nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, by a son, Robert Douglas Walston on March 26, 2020, by brothers, Timmy, Kenny, Steve & Joe Walston and by a sister, Melody Walston.
Funeral services will be 11 AM, Saturday, September 19th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Brother Nathan Pelehowski officiating. Visitation will be held 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, September 18th at Markland Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be at Cedar Hedge Cemetery in Rising Sun, IN. Memorial donations may be made to the Rising Sun American Legion or Rising Sun Church of Christ.
