Shelby Cummins Obituary

Shelby E. Cummins, 87, of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, passed away peacefully Saturday,
April 11, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Shelby was born September
2, 1938, in Lawrenceburg to Elmond and Dorothy (Carter) Cummins.

Shelby graduated from Lawrenceburg High School in 1957, where he was a standout
football player, receiving both the Neary Trophy for Most Valuable Player and the
Tremain Trophy for Most Valuable Lineman.

Shelby worked many jobs throughout his lifetime. Throughout high school, he worked at
the A&P Store, delivered donuts before school, and then ran the home delivery truck for
the Meadow Gold Dairy in Dearborn and Ohio Counties.

Shelby married the love of his life (his words) Pamela Porter, of Aurora, on June 3,
1961. He served his Country Honorably from 1961 to 1963, with the U.S. Army.

Shelby then worked at the Monsanto Chemical Co. for 28 years where he made lifelong
friends. After schooling, he received his Barber License in 1966. In 1974, Shelby
purchased a little building on Walnut St. in Lawrenceburg and opened his shop
“Shelby’s Shear Thing. Shelby was a Master Barber, and a Master of Storytelling. His
shop became a gathering place for friends from everywhere.

Shelby was a fan of all sports, but especially those that his children and grandchildren
participated in. He was 100% a family man. The family spent 50 years boating and
skiing. He was the best leader of joy for everyone.

Shelby will be profoundly missed by his loving wife of 65 years, Pam, his brother Bob
Cummins (Nancy) of Louisville, his two children, daughter Angela Elliott of Rising Sun
and son Casey Cummins (Lori) of Noblesville. Five grandchildren Shelby Elliott Cole
(Joe) of Rising Sun, Sydney Elliott (Zach) of Rising Sun, Julia Urban (Drew) of
Batesville, Macy Elliott Smith (Grant) of Cincinnati, and Joel Cummins of Bloomington.

Two step granddaughters, Brooke Reicke (Seth) and Lexie Mergell of Indianapolis, and
a step great-granddaughter Ella Reicke.

Three great grandchildren Elliott Cole, Kya Elliott, and Luke Dennis Cole complete the
family.

Shelby was preceded in death by his parents, Elmond and Dorothy Cummins, Shirley
(Bill) Wullner, brothers Gary Cummins and Rick Cummins, his dearly beloved son-in-law
Dennis Elliott, and cherished nephew Jason Cummins.
