Sherry Kay Lawrence (Peters), 73, of Greensburg, Indiana, passed away on April 4, 2026. She was born in Milan, Indiana on November 20, 1952, a daughter of the late William and Genevieve (Thies) Peters. Sherry was raised alongside her siblings, Eddie, Carolyn, and Nancy, in Rising Sun. She was a graduate of the Rising Sun High School Class of 1970. Mom had several jobs throughout the years. Her job carrying mail for the Aurora Post Office was the first job that us kids remember. She worked there for several years. But as her health began to deteriorate, she needed to find something new. She always enjoyed working with numbers, so she decided to go back to school to get her degree in accounting. After graduation she began working for Robert Sonntag. Eventually her health worsened and knew it was time to retire. Being retired gave her more time to enjoy with her grandchildren. They certainly enjoyed spending the night with their grandma, they never wanted to leave. Often times you could find us all at her house watching old movies together or jamming to some oldies music, while building puzzles off course. The kids didn't want to join in until we got to the last three or four pieces. We let them have their moment; Mom did live alone so she decided to adopt a kitty to keep her company. She loved him so much that she decided to adopt his roommate, Keifer and Boo. They were her buddies off course. If a kitty was in need of a home, she couldn't say no. That's where Ellie, Daisy and Shadow came in. We used to tease her that she treated the kitties better than she treated us. Obviously, we were kidding. She was the best mom you could ever have, despite her disabilities. She did the best she could to love us, guide us and give us the best life that she could. She will always be cherished and loved. She will remain in our hearts forever. Sherry is survived by son James “Jim” Lawrence (Amanda) of Danville, Iowa; daughter Laura Presley (Doug) of Greensburg, Indiana; brother John E. “Eddie” Peters (Saundra) of Rising Sun, Indiana; sister Nancy Hopper, of Rising Sun, Indiana; as well as her grandchildren Kelsey Lawrence, Alyssa Cook, Zayden Lawrence, and Leland Lawrence.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, William and Genevieve Peters and by her sister, Carolyn Jones.
Services will be held Tuesday, April 7th, at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, Indiana, visitation from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, with funeral at 1:00 PM and burial at Rising Sun New Cemetery.
