Tamra Gwen (Schaffer) Doke

Tamra Gwen Doke, 74, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away on Thursday, January 29th, 2026 at Mercy Health West Hospital. Tamra was born in Madison, IN on September 9, 1951, a daughter of the late Ruby Jean McCormick and Fred  Schaffer.  She spent much of her youth in the Madison and Carrollton, KY communities. She was the wife of Elmer Lee Doke. Tamra and Elmer were married on May 10, 1980 in Lawrenceburg, IN. They celebrated 45 years together until her passing. Tamra was employed for several years at Gambles Furniture Store in Aurora, IN. She primarily worked as a sales clerk but also assembled appliances, mixed paint and did whatever else needed done. Tamra formerly attended the Rising Sun Church of Christ and donated much of her time to the free store. She enjoyed baking and loved time together with her family, especially during the holidays. 

Tamra is  survived by her devoted husband, Elmer Doke, of Rising Sun, IN; by her two sons,  Fred Perkins (Aleshia), of Madison, IN and David Perkins (Martha), of Florence, KY; by her stepson Chris Doke (Dawn), of Versailles, IN;  by grandchildren: Sara, Tamara, Josie, Minnie, John, Santiago, Orlando, Bryanna, Lupe, Austin, Braden, Hannah, Justis & Emma and by great grandchildren: Jose, Jasmine, Sophia, Junior, Dakota, Aiden, Quinn, Blair, Presley, Zeppelin, and Noah. Tamra was preceded by her parents, by her son, Jerry Perkins and by her brother, Fred Schaffer. 
 

Visitation will be held 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, February 2nd, 2026 at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 3rd, 2026 at Markland Funeral Home with Shane White officiating. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in Aurora, IN. Memorial donations may be made to the Rising Sun Church of Christ Free Store (checks payable to Christian Outreach).
