Thomas Carl Turner of Rising Sun, IN, passed away on Tuesday, July 21st, 2026 on the day of his 80th birthday, at his home. Tom was born in Ohio County, IN on July 21, 1946, a son of the late Lula Belle (Smith) Turner and Thomas S. Turner. He was a 1964 graduate of Patriot High School. Tom was the husband of Rita (Gulley) Turner. Tom owned and operated Turner Construction and Excavating for several years. He was a member of the Rising Sun Methodist Church. Tom was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, coon hunting and growing a garden. Tom was a big drag racing fan and also raced himself. He loved spending time with his family and friends and keeping everyone entertained. Tom is survived by his wife, Rita Turner, of Rising Sun, IN; by his two sons, Travis Turner (Stacey), of Rising Sun, IN and Barry Turner (Angie), of Kentucky; by two step sons, Mike Thomas, of Patriot, IN and Jason Thomas, of Patriot, IN; by his grandchildren: Sydney, Jayden, Alyssa, Kennedy and Cooper and by his great grandsons, Paxton and Porter. Tom is also survived by a sister, Vella Turner, of Florida and a brother, George Turner, of Moores Hill, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his daughter, Tracey Turner; by his brothers, David and Marian "Sarge" Turner and by his sister, Virginia Martin.
A celebration of Tom's life will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 1, 2026 at the Rising Sun Methodist Church. Memorial donations may be made to the Rising Sun Methodist Church or charity of the donor's choice. Markland Funeral Home of Rising Sun, IN serving the family.
