Velda Mae (Weise) Miller, 67, of Rising Sun, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, February 2nd, 2021 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. Velda was born on March 15, 1953 in Cleves, OH, a daughter of the late Dorothy (Atkins) and James Weise. Velda graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelors of Science degree. She was employed through the United States Postal Service for over 30 years until her retirement. Velda was the wife of John Miller. Velda and John were married in October of 1981.
Velda was skilled in and enjoyed many things, such as Braille transcription, working with a group to create a teaching guide for Braille, as well as knitting, making hundreds of ornate stockings over her lifetime and sweaters and quilts. Velda was known for her immense knowledge on bird and plant identification and was credited with discovering populations of plants previously unknown to the state of Indiana. Velda used her passions for the benefit of others and was involved through teaching and/or advocacy in numerous organizations such as Friends of Versailles and Versailles State Park, Ohio County Recycling Center, Oxbow Land Trust, and St. Mary's.
In addition to her husband John, Velda is survived by a son, Peter Miller of Brookville, IN, daughter Elizabeth "Liz" Miller of Rising Sun, IN, brother Richard (Tonya) Weise of Louisville, KY, and grandchildren Dakota, Lylah, and Danny Jean.
